Nikki Dressed Up as Rosie the Riveter

It's National Women's History Month and I can't let it go by without a shout out to the rebels, free spirits, and glass-ceiling breakers before me. They are the ones that made it possible for me to sit here and type this and for us as women to have the right to walk our path in any way that sits right with our soul. As a mother and business owner and champion of women’s rights, I want to send out a big thank you to the trail blazers before me, a comforting hug to those women trying to do it all right now, and some words of encouragement to the next generation to come.

Nikki Dressed as Frida Kahlo
To the women before me:  thank you from the bottom of my heart. From my mother that worked at a sewing factory without even a high school education but taught me I could be anything to the women that were marching on the steps in Washington D.C., thank you for believing that a girl can run a company; a girl can grow into a woman, and do anything a man can do.

To the women reading this: I wish I could give each one of you a hug and share a glass of wine with you. You each have a story, and there is such beauty in it. You’re so much more than you give yourself credit for. You give and you give and life doesn’t always seem to give back in equal part to what it takes. Please find your beauty. Ignore society. Desperately seek out what makes you joyful. Demand that people in your life treat you with respect and do something good just for you. Surround yourself with other women that lift you up. My wish for us to all support each other, because being a woman in today's world isn’t all that easy.

To the next generation: society will tell you that you’re not enough how you are. This is a trap. This is to get you to buy their beauty creams, hair products, and surgeries. You are perfect how you are. Surround yourself with people that encourage you to be your best and believe in you. I hope that you will honor the women that came before you that had to sacrifice so that you had the equal rights you so rightfully deserve. Go out there and make the most of them! Show the world what an awesome girl can do!

Now, let's get out there and be the best moms, boss babes, students, world travelers, dog lovers, anythings, we can be! But most of all, spread love, kindness, and glee!

We are inviting all of you to tell us about a woman that inspires you!  You can share your stories on Facebook, Instagram, here on the blog, or by emailing us at gleefulpeacock@gmail.com.  We will randomly select one of the nominees to receive a $100 gift card and the nominator will receive a $50 gift card.  Winners will be announced on Friday, March 25.  *Employees of Gleeful Peacock are not eligible for the prize*.
